Semyon Vakhshtayn is the prizewinner of Soviet and Russian TV and radio contests. In 1994-2006 he was the author and the presenter of the weekly radio programme "Evening Penza".

Since June 2006, Semyon Vakhshtayn has been the head of the editorial board of the radio station Ekho Penzy. It became well known and gained the reputation of a reliable source of information under his leadership.
