"The main task is to increase the culture of the use of pedestrian crossings. Crossing a road at a wrong place, people seriously risk their lives," the propaganda department of the traffic police of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reminded.

The office also noted that since July 1, 2015, pedestrians are recommended to have reflective objects in conditions of insufficient visibility and while crossing a road and walking along roadsides; outside built-up areas reflective elements are mandatory.

"Violation of traffic rules by pedestrians leads to a penalty equal to 500 rubles," the State Traffic Police added.
