Penza, 8 February 2017. PenzaNews. Awarding winners of the contest Scientist of the Year 2016 was held within the framework of the solemn event dedicated to the Day of Russian Science, which was celebrated in Penza on Wednesday, February 8.

An exhibition of scientific achievements of Penza region universities was organized in the hall of the Lunacharsky Regional Drama Theatre.

During the official part of the event, the governor Ivan Belozertsev emphasized the fact that in the modern world success of the regions and the state depends on the development of science.

"We all know that science is the engine of progress and the future without it is just unthinkable. But only a few people understand what these words actually mean: it is a great work of many people, scientists, inventors, innovators, engineers; it is the labour of those who do not only suggest but also promote creative ideas and innovations despite all hardships, these people are able to radically change the situation in the Russian economy," the head of the region noted.

He added that the Penza region is famous for its scientific potential and that developments of regional scientists are recognized on the Russian, as well as on the world level.

"No matter what kind of discoveries you make, no matter how successful you become, you should always remember who you are, who you make your discoveries for, and who you owe your success and achievements to," Ivan Belozertsev said.

After that, he awarded winners of the contest Scientist of the Year conducted for the first time.

Thus, the professor of the department of "Mechanization of technological processes in agroindustrial complex" of Penza State Agricultural Academy Nikolai Laryushin, the associate professor of the department "Computing machines and systems" of Penza State Technical University, the head of the department of “General professional disciplines” of the branch of Army General Khrulev Military Academy of Material and Technical Supply  Vladimir Savitsky, the head of the department of "Mathematics and supercomputer modeling" of Penza State University Yuri Smirnov, and the deputy head of the department of "Mechanics" of Penza State University of Architecture and Construction Alexander Shein were the best in the category "Technical sciences".

The professor of the department of "Mathematics and mathematic modeling" of Penza State University of Architecture and Construction Irina Garkina, the professor of the department of "Biotechnology and technosphere security" of Penza State Technical University Saniya Efremova, the professor of the department of “Agricultural products processing" of Penza State Agricultural Academy Anna Kshnikatkina and the deputy head of the department "Therapy" of Penza State University Yuri Smirnov were the best in the category "Natural sciences".

The professor of the department of "Organization and informatization of production" of Penza State Agricultural Academy Lubov Vinnichek, the associate professor of the department "Economics and management" of Penza State Technical University Ekaterina Grigoryan, the professor of the department of "History of Russia and methods of teaching history" of Penza State University Viktor Kondrashin, and the head of the department of "History and philosophy" of Penza State University of Architecture and Construction Larisa Koroleva became the best in the category "Humanitarian sciences".

The governor also awarded the winners of the contest Engineer of the Year.

In addition, the governor presented diplomas to students of Penza universities for participation in scientific and research activities.

Moreover, five students received scholarships from the governor equal to 30,000 rubles.
