Fedor Konyukhov becomes honorary citizen of Zagoskino village

Penza, 17 February 2017. PenzaNews. The title "Honorary citizen of the Zagoskino village" was given to the famous Russian traveller, writer, painter, and priest Fedor Konyuknov. Such decision was taken by the committee of local self-government of the Ermolovsky village council of the Penza area of the Penza region.

"10 years ago – on February 3, 2007 – the famous traveller Fedor Konyukhov presented the Penza region with a memorial tablet dedicated to the Russian naval officer and traveller who explored Alaska Lavrenty Alexeevich Zagoskin, moreover, the man paid for all works connected with the tablet creation. The tablet was installed on a wall of a school in the village Zagoskino on the 117th anniversary of the death of the great traveller and polar explorer," the press service of the "United Russia" regional department  told PenzaNews commenting on the connection of the famous traveller with the village in the Penza region.

Fedor Konyukhov is the honorary citizen of the village Bergin, and of the towns Miass, Bergin and Terni located in Italy.

The village Zagoskino is located 30 kilometres away from Penza on the right bank of the Penza river. It was founded in the early 18th century and named after the surname of one of former owners.

There is a sample of architecture in the village – a two-stored brick country estate built in the 19th century, remnants of a park and a garden. In 1.5 kilometres distance to the south there is a  Bronze Age mound.

According to the information, posted on the website of the Ermolovsky village council, the population of the village in 1998 equalled to 799 people.
