Penza, 7 March 2017. PenzaNews. Sellers who work at flower markets organized in Penza on the eve of International Women’s Day registered decline of consumer demand compared to previous years due to low prices on similar products in chain stores.

For example, we sell one tulip at the market for 60-80 rubles, while in the supermarkets like "Lenta" and "Spar" one can buy a small bouquet consisting of five flowers for 80-130 rubles.

As it was said by some sellers, this year they also noticed decline of demand for the symbol of the holiday – the silver wattle, which is also known as mimosa.

The plant brought from Abkhazia rose in price significantly. Because of frosts, the purchase value increased from 200-300 rubles per 1 kg to 500 rubles, which affected the price of retail sales.

In Penza, a twig of mimosa costs from 20 to 300 rubles depending on its size.

At the same time, bouquets of eustoma flowers and painted immortelle decorated with burs became very popular. Such bouquets can be gathered straight on the spot and they will last longer than usual flowers.

As it was said by florists who take individual orders, on the eve of International Women’s Day the number of those who want to present their loved ones with a bouquet of tulips traditionally increases. That is why this year it is cheaper to buy flowers for bouquets in a supermarket than at the market.

Florists also noticed the increase of cost prices, which occurred before the holiday. It affects the final price of a bouquet for International Women’s Day. Thus, the wholesale price of shrub chrysanthemum increased on the average by 20 rubles per twig, and roses from Equador – by 10-20 rubles.
