The governor was accompanied by the deputy chairman of the regional government Dmitry Semenov, who is responsible for the sphere of communal services, the Penza mayor Victor Kuvaytsev, his deputy Yuri Ilyin, the head of the city Valery Savelyev and heads of area administrations.

In the centre of Penza Ivan Belozertsev gave a critical comment about some building facades noting that they need repairing. He also urged to pay attention to arrangement of green spaces in the city.

The governor paid special attention to the state of foot walks and pavements.

"Victor Nikolaevich, this year we actually have to create several teams of workers – to take them by contract or subcontract – so that they should tile pavements, especially those in the city centre," he suggested turning to Victor Kuvaytsev.

Driving along Pushkina street, Ivan Belozertsev gave a critical comment on the state of lamp posts.

"Look, in what terrible condition these lamp posts are! They might have been here for 50 years already," the head of the region said emphasizing that the lamp posts are aimed to improve the appearance of city streets but not to spoil it.

Throughout the entire journey, one of the main issues for discussion was the state of road surface. Victor Kuvaytsev and Yuri Ilyin informed the governor on the scope of works planned to be conducted in summer.

"Pushkina street is one of the main objects this year that will be repaired within the framework of the project 'Safe roads of high quality'. [...] We are going to install new pedestrian fences, to change the curbs," the vice mayor explained noticing that in the road repairs it is planned to use macadam-mastic asphalt, which showed itself to good advantage during repairs in Kirova street.

Yuri Ilyin added that it is also planned to change road signs and to construct traffic lay-bys at stops.

Turning from Pushkina street towards the monument "Globus", Ivan Belozertsev drew attention to traffic lights. According to him, in some areas of Penza they are installed "in every 100m", which is not always justified.

"They must be installed at those places where they are required due to security reasons," the governor stressed.

Special attention was given to the road leading to the sports complex "Zenit", where one of the teams-participants of the FIFA World Cup is going to train. Particular emphasis was made on such issues as the possibility of road widening, installment of foot walks as well as repairs of facades on both sides of the road.

"It is the road that will be used by guests. It must be improved," Ivan Belozertsev said.

The authorities also stopped at the yard of house No. 1 in Kronshtadskaya street. This year it was added to the project "Our house, our yard". Within the framework of the project, it is planned to install a playground, to equip a parking, to renew the curbs and to asphalt the paths.

Ivan Belozertsev talked to the residents and gave a number of orders in connection with the upcoming repair works.
