Parade and concert held in Penza on Victory Day eve

Penza, 5 May 2017. PenzaNews. A parade march of Penza Artillery Engineering Institute accompanied by a brass band was held at the square near the cinema concert hall "Penza" on the eve of the Victory Day on Friday, May 5, and was followed by a concert.

Over 1,000 of people of all ages including veterans of the Great Patriotic war, officials, representatives of the clergy and the community gathered in the square to watch the large-scale event.

The parade featured citizens of Russia and representatives of other countries who marched through the square in national uniforms of their countries.

Aside from the cinema concert hall, there was a field kitchen where everyone could try buckwheat porridge and have a tea, and from the side of philharmonic there was an exhibition of military weapons and machinery.

Children and adults had a chance to hold weapons and to get professional answers to their questions.

When the parade march was over, the celebration continued in the concert hall. There, before taking a seat, the audience could enjoyseveral thematic exhibitions and a photo zone as well as a performance by artists of the theatre "Voice of the Poet" and an orchestra.

Turning to those present, the governor of the Penza region Ivan Belozertsev reminded about the contribution of citizens of the city to the Great Victory and expressed confidence that this holiday will always remain sacred.

"The Victory Day is a common holiday for millions of people around the world because the Great Patriotic war was a fight for the future of the whole humankind," he said.

In turn, the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Penza region Valery Lidin thanked veterans who despite their advanced age make a contribution to patriotic upbringing of the young generation.

"I bow down before you, veterans, toilers of the rear, for your Victory, for your hard work, for restoration of our national economy in the postwar years," he added.

Then, the floor was given to the participant of the Great Patriotic war, the chairman of the Union of Veterans Vladimir Kerkhanadzhev, who wished toilers of the rear and participants of combat operations happiness.

"I wish that heirs of the winners never experience what your grandparents experienced," he said.

The audience applauded the veteran during the time he walked to his seat in the centre of the hall.

When the official part was over and the famous band left the stage, the "Immortal Regiment" entered the hall. Dozens of people – school pupils, students, and adults – held portraits of participants of the Great Patriotic war.

During their performance on the stage, they spread out across the hall. The people present stood up in remembrance of heroes. Many people including men could not hold back tears.

Then, the audience enjoyed a theatrical concert programme accompanied by videos and pictures, which were projected on the scene as well as on the walls.
