"The number of non-profit organizations has neither significantly increased nor decreased. It remains the same – about 1,900 representatives," he said during a presentation of the third report on the state of civic society in the Penza region, which was held in PenzaNews press centre on Thursday, October 12.

Oleg Sharipkov noted that the number had not changed considerably over the last 5-6 years.

"Representatives of the non-profit organizations are changing – some of them stop existing, others emerge and register," the head of the foundation explained.

He specified that in the Penza region the largest number of non-profit organizations are responsible for elderly and disabled people, children and the youth.

"There are almost no organizations that would deal with human rights, ecology, and assistance to migrants," Oleg Sharipkov stressed.

According to him, the last non-profit organization that dealt with HIV-infected people terminated its activities.

"Two such organizations ceased to exist over the reporting period and at the moment there are no such ones at all. It is sad," the executive director of the local community foundation noted.

He added that at the same time, the number of charitable foundations was increasing in the Penza region.

"Their number does not increase too fast but still," Oleg Sharipkov explained.
