Penza, 20 October 2017. PenzaNews. The state traffic police called drivers to be more careful on roads of the Penza region because rain and wet snow are expected in the next few days.

This may lead to formation of an ice crust on the carriage way and worsening of the situation on the road.

"An effective way to ensure traffic safety in such a weather is not to exceed the speed limit, keep the distance and side space between vehicles. Another essential condition is the use of winter tyres, especially in the condition of crust formation on the carriageway and when driving along a road covered with snow," the propaganda department of the traffic police of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation told PenzaNews.

The state traffic police noted that in such a weather it is better to avoid sharp turns and abrupt manoeuvres.

"When approaching intersections, traffic lights and zebra crosswalks it is necessary to reduce the speed beforehand, to become more attentive and to assess the field of vision," the propaganda department explained.

The department added that greater caution is required not only on the part of drivers but also on the part of pedestrians.

"It should be borne in mind that in adverse weather conditions the braking path of vehicles is greatly increased that is why a vehicle may not be able to stop before a pedestrian who suddenly appeared on the road. Keep this in mind when crossing the road. For safer walking at night pedestrians must use light reflecting elements," the state traffic police said.
