Laying-in of pine cones starts in Penza region

Penza, 2 November 2017. PenzaNews. Specialists started to harvest cones of the Scotch pine in the Penza region.

As it was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Forestry, altogether in 2017, it is planned to lay-in over 600 kg of pine seeds from 60 tons of cones.
In addition, it is planned to harvest 120 kg of Scotch pine seeds with improved hereditary properties from seed plantations of the Kuznetsky, Chaadaevsky, Serdobsky, and Shemysheyshy forestry.
The seeds will be cleaned from wings. Then, samples from each batch will be analysed for the degree of quality and sent to forestry of the Penza region for storage.
At least 500 kg of seeds will be sown in nursery gardens in spring.
The received planting material will be further planted in forests of the Penza region and sold to leaseholders and loggers who do not have nurseries of their own.
