In Penza region 78 women with HIV give birth as result of pregnancy

Penza, 22 February 2018. PenzaNews. 78 HIV-infected women give birth as a result of pregnancy in the Penza region in 2017. This was stated in a message spread by the press service of the regional department of the Federal Service on Surveillance for Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being (Rospotrebnadzor).

It clarifies that in 2016 the number of such cases was 68, in 2015 – 80, in 2014 – 67, in 2013 – 48, in 2012 – 47, in 2011 – 43, in 2010 – 42, in 2009 – 38.
"In 2017, 76 living children were born," the text adds.
It explains that 69 couples, or 90.8%, underwent a three-stage chemoprophylaxis.
"In two cases women underwent chemoprophylaxis only during delivery, and in three cases – only during pregnancy. In other cases, women were diagnosed with HIV only after giving birth," the message states.
In also adds that 75 children underwent chemoprophylaxis.
