As it was reported by EMERCOM department head Alexei Mikhailov, drainage channels failed to cope with a large amount of water, sandbags did not help either. As a result, a fast-flowing stream running down the steep street washed away the base of the roadway.

After discussing the situation, head of the city administration Victor Kuvaytsev ordered head of the municipal unitary enterprise Penzadormost Yuri Parastaev to clean the drainage channels to ensure unimpeded flow of meltwater and then to proceed to the restoration of the roadway.

"The street must be taken under control, it is necessary to monitor gathering of meltwater and if required – to take prompt actions to prevent further destruction of the road base," the press service of the mayor's office quotes Victor Kuvaytsev.
