26 HIV-infected citizens die in Penza region in three months

Penza, 17 May 2018. PenzaNews. 26 HIV-infected citizens died in the Penza region in the first quarter of 2018. This was reported by the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor).

The department added that over the whole period of observation 835 people had died, which made up 18.9% of the total number registered.
"The total number of HIV-infected people living in the region including those who died as well as took their names off/on the register of people with the diagnosis equals about 4,400 people," the press service noted.
Commenting on the situation with the new cases of HIV infection, Rospotrebnadzor said that two age groups take the lead in the structure of morbidity: people at the age of 30-39 accounting for 46.8% as well as at the age of 40-49 – 23%.
"The proportion of men was 70.6%. The cases of infection by heterosexual contacts and when injecting drugs parenterally prevail making up 54.8% and 23.8% respectively," the department added.
As it was reported before, in the first quarter of 2018 the trend to the increase of HIV-infection incidence continued in the Penza region.
99 cases were registered among permanent population. The incidence rate amounted to 7.4 per 100,000 population, which is 4.2% higher than that of the similar period of 2017.
