Tendency to increase of HIV infection incidence continues in Penza region

Penza, 17 May 2018. PenzaNews. The tendency to moderately expressed increase of HIV-infection incidence is observed in the Penza region. This was reported by the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) when commenting on the situation in the first quarter of 2018.

"99 cases of HIV-infection have been registered among residents of the Penza region. The incidence rate amounted to 7.4 per 100,000 population, which is 4.2% higher than that of the similar period of 2017. Among all contingents of the population 124 cases of HIV infection were registered over the specified period of time," the agency said.

Rospotrebnadzor noted that the largest number of first identified disease was registered in the following areas: Maloserdobinsky – 22.5 per 100,000 population, Kuznetsky – 16.1, Tamalinsky – 13.8, Penzensky – 13.6, Pechelmsky – 13.4 as well as in the Bessonovsky area – 12.3.

"The incidence of HIV infection in Penza amounted to 11.1 per 100,000 population. In the structure of HIV-infected residents, city residents accounted for 42.8% over the whole period of observation in the region," the press service said.

The department also added that the following municipalities took the lead in the rate of HIV-infection prevalence: Kuznetsk with the rate of 858.5 per 100,000 population, the Kuznetsk area – 463, Zarechny – 464.7, Penza – 361.3, as well as the Issinsky, Luninsky, Penzensky, Maloserdobinsky and Serdobsky areas – 250.7-371.4.
