The organizer of the campaign was coordinator of the Penza region Left Front branch Victor Khomets. He fixed the banner at the bridge alone at about 7.20 on Tuesday, July 17, drawing attention of pedestrians and car drivers hurrying to work in the morning rush hour.
According to witnesses, it took the activist only few minutes to place the banner, and immediately after it appeared over the roadway some drivers passing by began to honk in support.
The banner hung at the bridge until about 10.20 when it was removed by unknown men.
Commenting on the conducted campaign to PenzaNews, Victor Khomets called it a one-person protest organized in strict compliance with current legislation.
He also added that by doing this Left Front had expressed on behalf of ordinary citizens the dissatisfaction over the forthcoming pension reform and, in particular, over the fact that on July 13, members of the Legislative Assembly of the Penza region, those included in the United Russia faction, had supported the draft federal law "On amendments to certain legislative acts of the Russian Federation on the issues of the assignment and payment of pension", which provides for the increase of the retirement age.
According to the activist, the reform suggested by the government of the Russian Federation headed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev is directed against people and the social consequences of its implementation will be negative.
Some time after the campaign, Victor Khomets posted a video on Instagram showing the process of fixing the massive banner at the fence of the overpass. By 18.00 the video received over 10,000 views.
