Not-yet-uprooted stumps as well as trunks and branches lying on the ground remind of the fact that the trees used to decorate an area adjacent to Sobornaya square, which until recently was called Sovetskaya.

As a PenzaNews journalist reports, some passers-by regret to say that Penza is gradually losing that fame of a green city.

One of them noted that strong trees are cut down in the regional centre under various pretexts and the young trees that are planted in winter in the framework of environmental campaigns often do not survive or die because of improper care.

Penza residents also pay attention to the fact that even though workers cleared the ground on one side of the diocesan administration, they ignored a damaged tree on the opposite side.

Nobody is in a hurry to cut large trees that could fell due to strong winds.

As PenzaNews reported before, it is planned to hold large-scale improvement works near the Spassky cathedral under construction in Penza.

Among other things it is planned to consider options for placement of benches, bins, lighting poles, installation of a non-stationary public toilet and art objects.
