This is expected to significantly reduce the time required for finding data for those who do not know the exact place of residence of ancestors in the territory of the region.
In addition, digitalization will ensure the safety of one of the most reliable sources on the history of Russia – materials of Zemstvo statistics, which cannot be filed because of their physical condition and due to the fact that they were printed on low-quality paper.
Currently, the electronic documents are undergoing the process of indexation and will be available on the website of state-financed institution State Archive of the Penza Region starting November 2018. After registration any user will be able to start the search of their ancestors in the database, which includes almost all residents of the province in 1917.
The digitization was carried out at the expense of the Federal Archival Agency within the framework of the target program Culture of Russia for 2012-2018, the website of the Committee on Affairs of Archives of the Penza region informs.
