Penza, 10 January 2019. PenzaNews. In 2019, members of the Penza regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) plan to make expeditions to the Caucasus, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

Focus areas were determined during the meeting of the initiative group on coordination of socially significant projects of the RGS regional department, which took place on Wednesday, January 9.

The trips to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan will be the second stage of the project "Modern Ethnic World", which started with Uzbekistan in 2018. Penza researchers will study the traditions and life of Russian-speaking peoples of the post-Soviet space.

An expedition to places connected with Lermontov including climbing the Kazbek summit will take place in the framework of the project “Lermontov is 205” together with the Association of Literary and Memorial Museums.

In addition, school memorial expeditions devoted to the preservation of monuments and historical sites connected with the names of famous fellow citizens will be organized again.

In 2019, attention will be paid to the small motherland of traveller Lavrenty Zagoskin, the press service of the Russian Geographical Society informs.
