It was a tall carved tower made of natural wood in the old Russian style.

Judging by the footage taken by a PenzaNews journalist at the scene, the Melnitsa bar and the open summer terrace survived the fire, although they were in the immediate vicinity of the burning building.

A part of the notch line, which was restored in 2013, was not affected either.

Only charred decorative elements and what remained of wooden log cabin remind now of the beauty of the restaurant, which was a favourite resting place for different generations of townspeople.

Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations continue to work on the territory of Zaseka. They will have to determine the true cause of the fire, which, according to preliminary data, occurred in the kitchen.

From time to time, Penza residents come to see the site of the fire. Many people took the fire as a personal loss, as they had celebrated important events in their lives – weddings and birthdays, held meetings with friends, colleagues and business partners there.

Residents of the city and guests of Penza, who remembered Zaseka as a cosy restaurant with excellent cuisine, actively make posts on social networks to share memories of the place, whose slogan was “It's fabulously hearty here!”
