On Saturday, December 19, head of the city administration Andrei Luzgin checked the quality of the ice.

“It is clear that this is an outdoor ice rink and it is difficult to provide high quality ice. We are going eliminate the defects,” the mayor said.

He added that the rink was planned to be covered with another layer of ice to level the current top layer on Monday, December 21.

Andrei Luzgin recalled that in previous years, there had also been an ice rink in the centre of Penza, but it had been located in other places.

“It was placed in Lenina Square and Fontannaya Square. This year it was decided to make the ice rink at the promenade as there is a large vacant plot. The central squares have a good pavement, we didn't want to damage it,” explained the mayor of Penza.

According to the press service of the city hall, for the convenience of residents there is a skate rental and night illumination so that visitors can skate at night.
