Penza penal colony No. 4 sets up production of bathroom furniture
Penza, 17 April 2021. PenzaNews. The production of bathroom furniture, such as washbasin units, cabinets and other products of various sizes was set up in Penza penal colony No. 4 under a contract with a commercial organisation until the end of 2021.
According to Arkady Talyshev, deputy head of penal colony No.4, necessary equipment was purchased under the federal target programme Development of Penal Enforcement System (2018-2026).
“The equipment is modern, there are two CNC machines, and therefore, competence and education of the convicts are important. In our case, three of them have higher education and know how to work with CNC. They write programs for milling, for boring and run the process,” he explained.
Arkady Talyshev added that negotiations with another company were under way.
“In the future we plan to start making shelving for libraries,” he said.
The press service of the Penza regional department of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service said that ten inmates had been employed at the furniture production site in colony No. 4, which had a dimensioning, edging, milling and engraving, and drilling machines, as well as a membrane-vacuum press.
