“Thank you to all the residents of Penza region who took part in choosing a site for the memorial stele in honour of Penza named City of Labour Valour. The June poll was completed. The majority of citizens voted for the park in Arbekovo commemorating the 40th anniversary of Victory,” he wrote on Instagram.

According to Oleg Melnichenko, “this is the best of the ten locations proposed by the city hall”.

“Experts from the Russian Military Historical Society are approving the optimal parameters for the stele, so that the new monument will blend in perfectly with the urban landscape. The monument will be at least 12 metres high,” added the head of the region.

He noted that beautification works were planned in the park.

“Citizens and visitors to our region will have a new place to relax,” stressed Oleg Melnichenko.

As previously reported, online voting for the location of the City of Labour Valour stele was launched on the Penza administration website on June 10.

Internet users were initially offered 11 options, but the number was then reduced to ten.

According to the results, which are currently available in the polls archive section, 3 679 votes were cast in favour of the park commemorating the 40th anniversary of Victory.

The Staircase at the Palace of Children's (Youth) Art on Bekeshskaya Street option received only 24 votes less – 3 655.

The area of the observation deck on Mira Street was also in the top three, with 840 votes in its favour.
