Penza, 28 September 2021. PenzaNews. 70 cases of rabies were registered in Penza region from January 1 to September 26, 2021. This was reported by the press service of the regional department of the Federal Service on Surveillance for Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being (Rospotrebnadzor).

According to the department, there were seven cases of rabies among foxes, 28 – among dogs, 32 – among cats, three – among cattle and small ruminants.

Human infection occurs through bites, wounds and abrasions on the skin, as well as through contact with infected saliva. The virus is not transmitted from person to person. The incubation period for rabies can range from eight weeks to a year.
