“Today, more than 80,000 residents of the region are facing problems with access to clean drinking water. The high content of iron, trace elements and mineral salts makes the water unsafe for permanent use,” the TASS news agency quotes the head of the region.
The governor added that about 2.5 thousand km of water supply networks, 544 km of water disposal networks, 200 artesian wells and 326 water towers need to be replaced.
According to Oleg Melnichenko, to purify water from iron and fluorides, it is necessary to build nine deferrization and six defluorination stations, and to implement these plans the Penza Region needs additional 3.2 billion rubles within the framework of the Housing and Urban Environment national project.
“On behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, the necessary applications for this program were prepared in the Penza region and sent to the relevant ministries and departments of the government of the Russian Federation,” the head of the region noted.
