Penza, 16 July 2012. PenzaNews. The well-known sports journalist Viktor Gusev commented on the appointment of Fabio Capello to the post of the head coach of Russian national football team during a press conference in Penza on Monday, July 16. “Firstly, I stood for a young coach, and, secondly, for a Russian one. Capello, Guardiola are professionals, but for the most part of their career they got very good teams to train,” explained Viktor Gusev.

“Their task was to regulate the game tactically, make small adjustments, to polish them, so to say. But here we are not talking about this. We need to plow up the whole layer, because there is a change of generations: the older one goes by, but new one doesn’t come up. It’s a kind of a strange relay race, when the stick is passed, and there is no one to take it,” pointed out the journalist.

Viktor Gusev noted that a Russian coach would have been more responsible, established rapport between the players easily and created the right climate in the team.

“Our team needs someone like, Nikolay Pisarev, for instance. He has experience working with the youth teams, and he knows football from inside. The young coach would grow with a young team. Fabio Capello responds primarily to his employers for the two-year contract. Any Russian coach would be responsible for the boys with whom he played football in the yard,” he argued.

The journalist also stressed a significant point of the language barrier.

“Fabio Capello doesn’t even speak English well. And when the team needs emotional back up, for example, during the match breaks, having about 10 minutes, half of the time is wasted for translation. In addition the foreign coach communicates with the players for a limited amount of time. This isn’t an option for us,” summed up Victor Gusev.
