Penza, 6 August 2012. PenzaNews. The Penza region occupies 9th line in the rating of Olympic medals won by athletes at London Olympics among 28 regions in the ranking made by the research agency “Smyslografiya” and AGT Communications Group based on official data from the Ministry of Sports of Russia.
By the morning of August 6, the Penza region possessed 1,5 and 0,5 silver bronze medals.
“To make a correct comparison for the athlete representing two regions, the number of medals is divided into two between the two regions. In team sports, each medal is divided by the number of athletes who participated in this competition,” explained the head of the territory promotion department of AGT Communications Group Vladislav Shulaev.
The Novosibirsk and Chelyabinsk regions take the first and second places in the rating with equal number of gold medals. Krasnodar Krai occupies the third place. The Sverdlovsk region turned out to be the outsider of the rating with 0,25 bronze medal.
According to Vladislav Shulaev, this counting system gives an opportunity to assess the contribution of different regions in the Olympic medal treasury of the Russian Federation, and thus evaluate the level of sports development of the regions.
