Artistic gymnastics tournament in memory of Natalia Lavrova to be held in Penza

Penza, 17 October 2012. PenzaNews. The third All-Russian tournament in artistic gymnastics, group exercises, for the Cup of two-time Olympic champion Natalia Lavrova will be held in the Palace of Sports “Burtasy” in Penza on October 19-21. According to the administration of the regional specialized youth sports school of Olympic gymnastics reserve, teams from Nizhny Novgorod, Astrakhan, Krasnodar, Ulyanovsk, Volgograd, Novosibirsk, Samara and Penza applied for participation.

“Senior program includes exercises with five balls, three ribbons and two hoops. Juniors will show their skills with five hoops and five pairs of clubs,” explained in Penza youth sports school in gymnastics.
School administration also added that the tournament will be held in all-round gymnastics and its variations.
Natalia Lavrova (August, 4, 1984 — April, 23, 2010) is the Honored Master of Sports.
Natalia Lavrova studied artistic gymnastics at the specialized school of the Olympic reserve in Penza. Hers first coaches were Olga Stebeneva and Tatyana Vasyleva.
As a part of the Russian national team Natalia Lavrova became the world champion in group exercises in 1999, 2002 and 2003, the champion of Europe — in 2001 and 2003, the winner of the international tournaments of series of Grand Prix in Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands and other countries.
The top of the sports career of Natalia Lavrova became the Olympic games in Sydney, 2000 and in Athens, 2004. She was a two-time Olympic gold medalist.
Natalia Lavrova and her sister Olga Popova died in a car accident on the road Penza — Shemysheyka (the Penza region) on April, 23, 2010.
