Flame of XXVII World Summer Universiade reached Penza

Penza, 13 June 2013. PenzaNews. The flame of XXVII World Summer Universiade 2013 reached Penza on Thursday morning, June 13.

According to the flame keeper Vladimir Zhemer, the Universiade flame has been traveling the world for almost a year now.
“Russian turn came on January 25. In each city, the people are welcoming us with joy. We can see the flame in their eyes,” he said.
It is expected that the first torch of the Universiade flame relay will be held at Provokzalnaya Square at 12.00.
The relay route is 8,7 km long from the railway station “Penza-I” along Plekhanova St, Suvorova St, Volodarskogo St, Lermontova St, Olimpiyskaya Alleya St, back to Lermontova St, and then along Kirova St till Lenin Square.
48 torch-bearers are to participate in the relay, they will carry the flame for 150–250 meters each. Among them are students, teachers, journalists, athletes, and coaches, as well as representatives of working professions.
At the end of the relay on Lenin Square a festive event will be held.
