Penza chess player becomes bronze prizewinner at Russian Championship among veterans

Penza, 28 October 2013. PenzaNews. 77-year-old master of sport Yuri Gorshkov took the third place at the Russian Chess Championship among veterans, which finished in the Moscow village Lesnoy Gorodok.

After nine rounds of competition he scored 6,5 points. A similar number of points were gained by grandmasters Yuri Balashov and Arkady Vul from the Moscow region, international masters Alexander Filipenko from Izhevsk, Vladimir Karasev from St. Petersburg and Igor Dmitriev from Saratov. However, additional parameters put Yuri Gorshkov up to the third position.

According to the regulations of the tournament, silver and bronze prizewinners will be sent either to the World Championship 2013 or the European Championship 2014 by the Russian Chess Federation, the Internet service “Penza-Sport” reported.
