His gold medal was earned in the championship in Nanning, China, that ended last Sunday, October 12.

This was the only gold earned by the Russian gymnasts during the 45th world championship.

The Penza sportsman won another medal – a bronze – in still rings exercises.

Overall, Russian sportsmen earned 1 gold and 5 bronze medals, earning 6th place in the totals behind the USA, China, the DRPK, Japan and Ukraine.

According to Andrei Rodionenko, senior coach of the Russian team, the general performance of the national sportsmen can be considered a success: however, they and their mentors have a lot of work to do before the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, during which they will have to greatly improve the difficulty of their performance programs.
