Region’s first gym for disabled opened in Penza

Penza, 17 February 2015. PenzaNews. The region’s first gym for disabled people, equipped for with wheelchair users as well as visually and hearing impaired people, was opened at the “Pervomaysky” Penza stadium complex on Tuesday, February 17.

This event can truly be considered extraordinary, noted Artur Panteleev, first deputy chairman of the regional sports committee.
“It has all the conditions for people with disabilities to do sports,” he said.
Artur Panteleev expressed his gratitude to Irina Kulemina, director of the Penza region sports training center that maintains the “Pervomaysky” stadium.
In he turn, she thanked Valery Timoshkin, chairman of the regional branch of the All-Russian Disabled People Society, for valuable advice and large support.
After the official part was over, the first gym visitors were able to try out the new sports equipment.
The gym is situated in the room under the west stand. A total of 147 sq. meters was involved in reconstruction.
In addition to the gym, the area is also equipped with changing rooms, showers and toilets.
Furniture and all 13 sports equipment units are adjusted for the disabled, the entrances are equipped with ramps, and the hallways feature tactile warning strips.
