Penza region dropped to 42nd place in team sports rating in Russia

Penza, 23 March 2015. PenzaNews. The Penza region dropped from the 41st to the 42nd place in the all-Russian team sports rating compiled by “Petersburg Politics” foundation.

The regions are ranked by performance of their clubs in the most popular sports, such as soccer, ice hockey and Russian hockey, basketball, volleyball, handball, indoor soccer, rugby, field hockey and water polo, as of January 1, 2015.

The three leaders of the rating are Moscow, Tatarstan and Krasnodarsky Krai. The Moscow region is fourth, and St. Petersburg is fifth.

According to the study, the Penza region is among the regions with the greatest losses in some sports. The region dropped 7 lines in ice hockey, from 18th down to 25th, and lost 4.5 lines in basketball, from 23/24th down to 28th.

However, the Penza region showed successful performance is observed in football, rising from 62nd to 53rd, in volleyball (from 46th to 40/41st), all the while keeping the firm fifth place in rugby.

The all-Russian team sports rating is published biannually since July 2013 twice a year.

The list is calculated based on the achievements of sports clubs representing each region in the top leagues of the most popular sports.
