La Antigua, also known as Antigua-Guatemala, is located 1,533 meters above the sea level. It was founded by a Spanish conquistador Pedro de Alvarado in early 16th century. The city is a notable landmark of colonial culture in the American continent, says the website of the Russian Mini-Football Association.

It was almost completely demolished by a 1773 earthquake; however, it was later rebuilt by the local population.

The majority of 35,000 people living in La Antigua are descendants of the ancient Mayan people, which makes the city a unique symbiosis of colonial and native culture lost among lush forests, picturesque mountains, and volcanoes.

The most remarkable thing to any visitor of La Antigua’s narrow streets is its abundant sunlight. The city has a history museum dedicated to the local population and the Mayan tribe, as well as several churches and temples. Its main landmark is the Arco de Santa Catalina on the central square, the visit of which concluded the players’ tour through the city.

The Russian national team will continue their competition in the 6th World Championship at 3.30 am (Moscow time) of Sunday, November 29.

The players, coached by Evgeny Kuzmin, will be meeting with the Portugal national team, while Brazil and Spain will compete for the second ticket to the finals.
