50,000 people took part in Penza region “Winter Fun” campaign

Penza, 7 January 2016. PenzaNews. Over 50,000 people took part in the events of the campaign “Winter Fun,” a part of the Russian Decade of Sports, that was held at the same time throughout the Penza region, the press service of the regional sports committee told PenzaNews agency on Thursday, January 7.

“The event schedule featured competitions in skiing, snow mini-football and hockey, as well as mass sledding. Children and their parents enjoyed various fun games, such as village football, stilts competitions, log tug-of-war, jumping ropes, valenki games, skiing relay, and more. In addition, children and adults alike competed in martial arts, vareniki eating, and fun relay races,” explained the representatives of the Penza region physical education and sports committee.
The campaign held on Wednesday, January 6, marked the beginning of the 2016 sports season, they added.
“One of its main objectives was to increase popularity of winter sports for people of different age groups,” the regional sports committee added.
