The home team kept the initiative for most of the match that took place on Sunday, January 31, and Alexei Shirokov exploited the very first removal that resulted in power play. However, the Penza team successfully equalized the score, thanks to a goal by Vadim Shutov.

The final period was marked by another goal by “Neftyanik,” as Danila Makarov and Artur Sarvarov from Almetyevsk began the attack which was finished by Daniel Nasybullin – 2:1. Further attempts by “Diesel” coaches to save the day did not bring the expected outcome.

During the after-match press conference, Dmitry Vershinin, acting head coach of the Penza team, noted his players deserved a better result in the match.

“Sadly, the removals were a letdown. The opponents exploited the first power play, then we somewhat held for the second five-minute power play against us, but missed a goal as soon as the removed player went back out. That goal decided the fate of the match. The guys fought, they played selflessly, and I am grateful to them for that. They definitely deserve some good praise. A particular thank you to our fans who came to support the team,” he said.

In turn, Rishat Gimaev, head coach of “Neftyanik,” pointed out that their opponents had good defense that was very hard to break open.

“But we did manage to do that. There were other opportunities, but exploiting them was failing today. First of all, that was because ‘Diesel’ played a very tight game in its zone and the goalie was saving them. Overall, the game was a good one, with the opponents giving us a hard time, and we looked well. Most importantly, we won,” the press service of “Diesel” quotes the Almetyevsk team’s trainer.

After 42 matches, “Diesel” holds the 23rd place in the tournament with 42 points. They will play the next game in Kazan against “Bars” on Tuesday, February 2.
