No goals were scored during the first period of the match, even though “Diesel” had a 5-vs-3 power play opportunity.
The count began with a successful strike by the “Toros” player Denis Mingaleev in the beginning of the second period. “Diesel” returned the favor, thanks to Sergei Ilminsky. Another strike into the visiting team’s goal was rejected by the referee, who judged that the puck hit the target after being intentionally reflected by a player’s skate blade.
Later on, Dmitry Chernukh and Ilya Bochkov managed to score a total of two more goals during the third period.
During the post-match conference, Konstantin Polozov, trainer of “Toros,” pointed out that his team deserved the win.
“I think the fans liked the match. The game kept everyone on the edge of their seats practically down to the last minutes. My congratulations to the team with the victory. They needed to show their character and bravery to earn it. We had a lot of power play opportunities against us, but we stood firmly; used our own power play opportunities. I am glad to see that,” he said.
In turn, Dmitry Vershinin, acting head coach of the Penza “Diesel,” stressed he has no objections related to his team’s attitude, intention and dedication to win.
“We failed in game discipline. We had unfounded penalties against us, which led to missed goals. Sadly, the score is 1:3,” the press service of “Diesel” quotes the trainer.
After 47 games, the Penza team remains on the 20th place in the SHL competition roster with 51 points.
“Diesel” will be playing its next match on the home ice on Wednesday, February 17, against the Nizhny Tagil “Sputnik.”
