Penza region falls behind in playing sports rating

Penza, 17 February 2016. PenzaNews. The Penza region went down from 39th to 47th position in the sixth rating of playing sports compiled by “Petersburg Politics” foundation and the newspaper “Sport-Express.”

The rating is based on the perfomance of Russian teams in the most popular playing sports, including soccer, ice hockey, bandy, basketball, volleyball, handball, mini-football, rugby union, lawn hockey and water polo, as of 1 January 2016.

The Penza region earned a total of 6,760 points in the over all rating. Based on the available data, the region averaged at the 48th-49th place over the past 3 years.

The results in separate sports are: fall from 49th to 51st position in soccer, from 22nd to 30th in ice hockey, from 28th to 36th in basketball, and from 5th to 6th in rugby.

At the same time, the region managed to retain the 12th place in mini-football.

The Penza region also improved its ranking in volleyball – from 34-44th place to 36th.

However, the region became one of the lowest-dropping entrants in the ratings in two sports – ice hockey and basketball.
