Winter Sports Day is dedicated to the Sochi Winter Olympics, he reminded.
“Two years ago, the Sochi Olympics were a true festival of sports in Russia that united the whole country. I was lucky to be at the Olympics. I saw how many people came to root for our Olympic team, as our Olympic athletes fought and earned gold, silver and bronze medals, and were the best in the national rating. But I am even more glad to see such a beautiful new generation growing – as a result, some of the young boys and girls will perform at the Olympics as members of the team,” said the head of the regional Sports Ministry.
“Do winter sports! Go skiing and skating!” Grigory Kabelsky urged the children that gathered at the festival.
His speech was followed by the concluding ceremony of the winter sports drawings contest.
Afterwards, Winter Sports Day was celebrated in competitions in short track speed skating, valenki hockey, exhibition performances of figure skaters and snowboarders, hockey matches, and other competitions and contests.
