Penza to hold Valery Spiridonov memorial karate competition

Penza, 13 March 2016. PenzaNews. “Voeykov” Penza martial arts palace will hold the inter-regional karate competition in memoriam of Vladimir Spiridonov, athlete, sports coach and judge. The event will take place on Sunday, March 20.

“Valery Spiridonov greatly contributed to the establishment and development of karate in Penza. He created the first city karate clubs in 1976, which he united into the youth sports and recreation center ‘Typhoon’ in 1989 and remained its director until 1994. As an athlete, Vladimir Spiridonov took part in the first USSR karate championship in 1980, and later won numerous prizes at Russian championships. He holds the second dan in karate, and taught Vladimir Smolyankin, three-times tameshiwari championship of Russia,” the press service of the Penza region Ministry of Physical Education and Sports told PenzaNews.
Also, “Voeykov” will be holding another karate event on March 19, as Penza will be hosting the Volga Federal District competition.
