In addition, during the competition held at “Burtasy” sports palace on Saturday, April 2, the athlete won a silver in the free program, where he was next to Nikita Nagorny.
At the same time, Sergei Yeltsov was the strongest in the pommel horse section.
Meanwhile, Nikolai Kuksenkov, who recently had won the multidiscipline competition and proceeded to the finals in the pommel horse and rings with the first and the fourth positions respectively, dropped out of the tournament due to positive Meldonium tests.
According to Valentina Rodionenko, chief coach of the Russian national artistic gymnastics team, the test taken on March 15 showed the minimal concentration of the medication.
“I can tell you that the Russian national artistic gymnastics team stopped using this medication back in August 2015! Back then, the representatives of the Federal Medico-Biological Agency consulted our doctors, and removed all Mildronate from the drugstores – which was provided on a legal basis, I would like to point out. I can guarantee that our athletes were not taking this medicine since August. However, nobody knows how much it takes for this substance to be removed from the bodily functions. This is a very bizarre and wrong situation, and we must resolve it together,” she commented on the incident with the gymnast for the sports news agency “Ves Sport.”
