Among the fans of the team who attended the match to root for the footballers were the regional Legislative Assembly chairman Valery Lidin, the Penza mayor Victor Kuvaytsev, the regional Construction Ministry head Alexander Grishaev, and the honorary citizen of Penza Alexander Kalashnikov.
However, in spite of the emotional support, the team ended up being unable to turn the tide of the match and score even a single goal.
The outcome of the game has left the Penza players without any chance to reach the third place, as “Ryazan” and “Metallurg” won their games and became unbeatable for “Zenit” on approach to the last round of matches.
“‘Lokomotiv’ is known as a very tricky opponent for the Penza team. The most recent victory by ‘Zenit’ in their rivalry took place on 23 July 2013, when the Penza players defeated the opponents at 1:0. Most of the matches between them resulted in goal-less ties. If we take the current game into account, ‘Zenit’ spent a total of 508 minutes in this rivalry without any goals,” the press service of the Penza team noted.
“Zenit” will play its final match in the current competition in Orel on Monday, May 30.
