Penza, 26 August 2017. PenzaNews. The 18-year-old Penza swimmer Maria Astashkina will continue her career in the USA. She said this to the news agency "Ves Sport".

The girl already arrived at the United States.

It is planned that she will compete for the team of the University of Louisville located in the state of Kentucky.

The chief coach of the university swimming team is Arthur Albiero, the coach coordinator of the women's team is Stephanie Junker.

Maria Astashkina was born in Penza on April 5, 1999.

At the European Junior Swimming Championship in 2014 she won four gold medals in the events 50, 100, 200 metres breaststroke and in a medley relay 4×100 metres.

In April 2015, she became Master of Sport of International grade.

In June of the same year, she won four gold medals at the European Games in Baku and became a winner of all 11 events, including four finals, in which she competed.

She was selected to take part in the World Swimming Championship in Kazan, where she competed in the events 50 and 100 metres breaststroke, but failed to qualify for further programme.

She won a silver medal at the World Junior Championship in Singapore in the event 200m breaststroke. In a team together with Maria Kamenova, Irina Prikhodko, and Polina Yegorova she won a gold medal in a medley relay 4×100 metres.

In autumn 2016, the Minister of Sports of the Penza region Grigory Kabelsky mentioned Maria Astashkina among candidates for the Olympics 2020.
