Svetlana Khorkina thinks sports popular in Russia require more active promotion

Penza, 21 August 2018. PenzaNews. Vice president of the Artistic Gymnastics Federation of Russia, chief judge of the 4th summer Youth Spartakiad Svetlana Khorkina thinks that Russia should take a more active stance on the inclusion of sports popular in the country in the Olympic programme.

"I really wish that we should suggest the International Olympic Committee the sports that children in the Russian Federation are engaged in since childhood, so to speak. I think this field should be better elaborated," she said during her visit to Penza, where the closing ceremony of the 4th summer Russian Youth Spartakiad was held on Tuesday, August 21.
The two-time Olympic champion expressed the hope that those sports that originated in the country will gain international recognition in the future.
