Penza student wins silver at Universiade in Krasnoyarsk

Krasnoyarsk, 3 March 2019. PenzaNews. Student of Penza State University Ekaterina Smirnova won a silver medal of the 29th World Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk in an individual 5km race classic style on Sunday, March 3.

She showed the result of 14 minutes 52.3 seconds, losing 3.7 seconds to the leader – Alisa Zhambalova. The third place in this event was also occupied by a Russian – by Yana Kirpichenko.
Coach of PSU, associate professor of the department of cyclic sports Alexander Lutkov noted that he was pleased with the result of the Penza skier.
"She was the leader of the race but Alisa Zhambalova had an opportunity to adjust her speed in accordance with the time shown by [Ekaterina] Smirnova – because Alisa had started after her – and to gear up at the finish," he said.
Alexander Lutkov said that Ekaterina Smirnova was in a fighting mood and was ready to perform in the next race, according to the official community of the university on the social network VKontakte.
