Mikhail Lermontov’s 200th anniversary concluded in Penza with big concert

Penza, 25 December 2014. PenzaNews. A poetic performance on the main scene of the Penza regional Philarmonic Hall on Wednesday, December 24, has concluded a set of events organized to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the poet Mikhail Lermontov.

It opened with a documentary on the 2014 celebration campaign, which was followed by a lyrical song “I go out on the road alone” performed by Irken Mustafin, and a dedicated Vissarion Belinsky monologue by the People’s Artist of Russia Evgeny Redko.
The actors of the Penza Lunacharsky Drama Theater shown the final scene from the play “A Hero of Our Time.”
The first part of the event ended with a 30-minute performance of a famous theater and cinema actor Veniamin Smekhov.
The second part opened with an “alla polacca” ball dance from the traditional ball set of Lermontov’s native village. The performance was followed by Sergei Sheremet and Natalya Kreslina, solo singers of the Moscow New Opera Theater, who were accompanied by the Governor’s Symphonic Choir directed by a renowned conductor Vladimir Kashirsky. Afterwards, the audience was treated to Maria Serebyakova and Gubernia quartet.
The event was concluded by the famous “Borodino.”
Summing up the jubilations, Evgeny Shilov, head of the regional culture and archive department, mentioned the chain of notable campaigns is not over as the Year of Culture transitions to the Year of Literature.
“This transition is made in the name of Mikhail Lermontov,” he said.
