Penza region grain harvest complete on almost 70% cultivated lands

Penza, 24 August 2015. PenzaNews. The grain in the Penza region was successfully harvested on almost 70% of the total local cultivated lands, announced Andrei Persanov, head of Economy and State Agriculture Complex Support Department for the regional Agriculture Ministry, during the regular meeting session in the regional government held on Monday, August 24.

“The yield is around 23.5 quintals of grain per hectare. As of now, 1,109,000 tons of grain was milled, and harvest is complete on 484,000 hectares out of 700,000,” he clarified.

Moreover, the sugar beet harvest in the Penza region is already underway, Andrei Persanov added.

“The spring crops harvest is about to begin as well,” he noted.

Discussing the current issues experienced by the agriculture workers, Andrei Persanov pointed out the growing demand for combine harvesters they are now lacking.

“But this is practically resolved: we bring them in from other regions. The harvest in the southern areas has already been finished. […] There are no issues with oil or fuel supplies,” he stressed.
