Penza region resident to spend 4 years in penal colony for car accident causing woman’s death

Penza, 10 October 2014. PenzaNews. Penza regional court upheld the verdict of Kolyshleysky district court from August 12, 2014, according to which a resident of Bessonovsky area was found guilty of violating the traffic rules, causing the death of a person.

“According to the indictment, on April 20, 2014, at 15:00 am the man, driving a VAZ-21102 car, was going along the Penza—Serdobsk road to the regional center at speed of at least 110 kmph. When overtaking another car, he crashed into the vehicle in front of him: a passenger of this car suffered lethal injuries,” Natalia Bychenkova, press secretary of Penza regional court told PenzaNews agency.

She added that the accused fled from the scene, but was almost immediately found and detained by the traffic police officers.

“The defendant fully admitted his guilt. According to his petition, the case was reviewed using a special procedure. As a result, the man was sentenced to 4 years in a penal colony settlement with a 2-year driving ban. Moreover, the man has to pay 200 thousand rubles to the affected party as the compensation in moral damages. Disagreeing with the sentence, the victim filed an appeal, and the prosecutor made a statement, which was dismissed by the regional court judge. The sentence came into force,” the press secretary explained.
