Penza, 9 February 2015. PenzaNews. A resident of Penza, 89, lost 66 thousand rubles trying to help her grandson escape from the alleged criminal responsibility.

“According to the pensioner, she received a phone call from a stranger, who introduced himself as a police officer. He said that the woman’s grandson had been detained, and releasing him requires money. Later, the pensioner gave a large sum to a man who drove to her house,” the press service of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs told PenzaNews agency.

The ministry noted the woman had previously heard of such cases of fraud from her precinct officer, but still could not recognize the deception.

“The incident is under investigation. The police officers are taking measures to identify the culprits,” the department said.
