Penza, 24 February 2015. PenzaNews. A Penza citizen, 72, lost 57 thousand rubles in a large-sum lottery scam.

“The pensioner received a letter that said she had won a contest and may get the prize of 2.5 million rubles. She contacted an unknown person and learned she must pay the tax to receive the prize, which requires registering a debit card and subscribing a particular mobile phone number to an online banking service. The elderly woman did as she had been told, and a total of 57,000 rubles was withdrawn from her account later on,” the press service of the regional MIA described the situation for PenzaNews agency.

According to them, the woman knew about such fraud schemes, but still got caught on the lure.

“The event is being investigated. The police are establishing identities of the culprits,” the press service added.
