Penza, 1 April 2015. PenzaNews. A Penza citizen, born in 1972, has been sentenced to 15 years in a maximum security colony for murdering a Kaliningrad businessman for profit.

“The court has established that on April 30, 2014, the accused received a total of $288,000 – over 8 million rubles according to the Bank of Russia exchange rate – from a Kaliningrad businessman in order to establish a joint enterprise under the lease of two cottages. The person spent the money as he saw fit, but after receiving several requests to return the money, he decided to murder the lender,” Natalya Bychenkova, press secretary of the Penza regional court, informed PenzaNews agency.

She added the person led his partner to an empty house in Bessonovka village on July 11 under the guise of a meeting with a buyer, where he hit him in the head with an iron rod no less than two times, causing the victim to die at the scene.

“On the next day, the accused moved the body to Nizhny Mastinovsky pond in the car and drowned it,” the agency interlocutor said.

During the court session, Natalya Bychenkova added, the man partially confessed to the crime, claimed he did not want to murder the victim, and regrets what he had done.

“The court ordered to fine the person 1 million rubles to compensate the widow of the victim for moral damages and over 82,000 rubles as a rebuttal for material damages. The civil case on seizing $176,000 dollars from the victim has not been reviewed by the court, and the brother of the businessman can pursue it if needed. The sentence has not yet entered into force,” the press secretary of the regional court informed.
